Eyeglasses Recycling

The Township of Rideau Lakes is partnering with the Elgin Lions Club and Westport Lions Club to recycle your old eyeglasses to provide recycled eyewear free of charge to people in developing countries. For more info see the Eyeglasses Recycling Page.

NEW: Rideau Lakes recycles Plastics #1 to #7. Note that this DOES NOT include plastic bags (grocery/milk), film wrap or hay wrap

TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF OUR WASTE SITES, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE PRACTICE THE 3 R’S.
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

IT IS NECESSARY TO FLATTEN ALL PLASTICS AND METAL CONTAINERS BEFORE RECYCLING THEM. IF EVERYONE FLATTENS THEIR PLASTICS & METAL CONTAINERS THERE WILL BE A SAVINGS OF SPACE, TIME AND MONEY. IT WILL MAKE YOUR RECYCLING PROGRAM MORE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE.

RE-USABLE BINS

At the Portland landfill site you will find re-usable bins for items that you no longer have any use for, but are not exactly garbage. This will be at the discretion of the waste attendant.

You know the saying – “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” - save the space in the landfill sites for garbage!

IMPORTANT--
FLATTENING YOUR CANS AND PLASTICS

By flattening your plastics and cans, the recycling bins won’t fill up as fast and we won’t be paying to recycle air. This will help to decrease transportation costs.

WINDOWS

Window panes are not recyclable due to the coating on the glass.

HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE

Household waste must be in a transparent bag and set out for curbside pickup with one (1) bag tag affixed to each bag. There is a 2 bag limit per week and a 40 lb weight limit per bag.

Commercial waste must be taken and disposed of at the landfill site during regualar hours of operation.
