Congratulatory Scrolls

Is someone you know celebrating a milestone birthday, anniversary or other special event?  Please see the Scrolls page for details on which levels of government provide congratulations.

Planning a Major Special Event?

Are you planning on holding a public event, festival and/or parade within the Township of Rideau Lakes? Would your event be involved in having a sale on a roadway or vacant lot? Could your event possibly block traffic? Would there be excessive litter? Are you offering an exhibition held for hire or gain?

Then you need to obtain a Festival License as per By-Law 2007-19. These licenses need to be obtained a minimum of 2 months before your event from the Clerk.

Completed Festival Licence application forms which should include letters of support from the OPP, Health Unit, Insurance, Fire and Emergency, site plans, etc., must be received by the Clerk 1 month prior to the actual event.

If you are not sure, and you need to clarify what category your event falls under, please contact Mary Ellen Truelove, Clerk 1-800-928-2250 Ext 293 or email mtruelove@twprideaulakes.on.ca.

But there is a still lot of work to do to keep children, and ourselves safe. Plan to take part in Parachute's Safe Kids Week, happening May 30 - June 5, 2016 with a focus on the top injury issues that affect children on the road, at home and at play. For more information visit: parachutecanada.org/safekidsweek

PAINT THE SUMMER SHOW - Perth

July 15&16

July 15 & 16 - RIDEAU LAKES ARTISTS’ ASSOCIATION presents “PAINT THE SUMMER” SHOW As Canada celebrates its 150th Birthday this year the Rideau Lakes Artists’ Association is switching things up.  We are introducing a new venue to help celebrate by moving our summer show from the Lombardy Agricultural Barn to Algonquin College in Perth at 7 Craig Street, joining with the Town of Perth to celebrate this momentous occasion.   When we introduced Art in the Barn seven years ago we never imagined the resounding success of having the public interact with the artists directly and the overwhelming support we received from the public since then.  We hope to carry this support to our new facility by producing an even more interesting show with all the comforts of a gallery.  You will be able to see wonderful original paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolour, batik, among others, representing the artists expression of what this great country of ours means to them, together with other art forms for your enjoyment.   There will be a painting competition to celebrate Canada where the public will be able to judge the People’s Choice.  You will still be able to meet with the artists and discuss their ideas and inspirations while also getting to know the dynamic s of this successful art association.  Each year the show supports a local charity and this year it is Habitat for Humanity.  The show will be open for your convenience on Saturday, July 15th and Sunday, July 16th from 10 am to 4 pm.  There is plenty of free parking and, since we are now in the heritage Town of Perth, refreshments are readily available.  Admission is free.  For more information be sure to look for our brochures in local businesses, view our website at www.rideaulakesartists.com or visit us on Facebook.  Come say hello to these great artists and enjoy their talents in this great new facility.

Did you know that Benedict Arnold was granted land by the British Crown in what is now Rideau Lakes? Did you know that there was a dedicated group of Rideau Lakers that halted the electrification of the Rideau Canal? Would you like to hear these stories and see these places and so much more?

The Rideau Lakes Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee invites you, your family, friends and summer visitors to visit www.doorsopenontario.on.ca/rideaulakes for details as they become available.
