Community Breakfast every 4th Tuesday at the Harmony Lodge in Philipsville. Call Edgar Connell at 613-359- 5753 for information.

Community Shopping bus sponsored through the Portland Seniors Club leaves for Kingston every 2nd Tuesday of the month. Call Barbara at 613-272-2825 to reserve your seat. Cost $15.00 return trip.

Spaghetti Dinners 1st Friday of every month at the Portland Legion, at the Westport (North Crosby) Legion the third Friday of every month and at the Elgin Lions Hall the last Friday of the month.

Bingo Thursday night at 6:00pm at the Elgin Lions Hall

Euchre is played in the Elgin Municipal Complex Community Room (Linda Barker at 613-272-2533), the South Elmsley Community Hall (Dorothy Covell at 613-283-2572), Crosby Community Hall (Linda Barker at 613-272-2533) and North Crosby Community Hall (Jim Mullville 613-273-3008). Games are also played at the Legion Halls and Lions Halls. Call their representative for dates and times.

bb WINTER ADVENTURERS DAY CAMP
February 3
  Don't spend the next PA day cooped up inside! Join the outdoor adventures at Foley Mountain Conservation Area! Children aged six to 12 are invited to learn how to snowshoe, erect shelters, build campfires, cook and orienteer. The cost of $40 per child includes snowshoe rental, snacks, and frothy hot chocolate. The adventure will start at 9:00 am and go to 4:00 pm. bb CONQUER FOLEY MOUNTAIN
January 19 to Feb. 23
  Every Thursday from 10-11:30am, Jan 19 to Feb 23, 2012. Looking for a fun challenge? Wondering if snowshoeing is for you? Participate in six snowshoeing sessions designed to help you conquer Foley Mountain Conservation Area. Learn snowshoe techniques, how to dress for outdoor exercise, safety tips, orienteering and basic GPS skills. Special introductory rate of $100 per person (includes snowshoe rental, GPS units, and YakTrax). bb FAMILY SNOWSHOE ADVENTURES
February 11
  Is snowshoeing for you and your family? Give it a whirl at our snowshoe adventure clinics. Learn snowshoeing techniques, how to dress for winter, and participate in a great nature hike with an RVCA interpreter. The cost, which includes snowshoe rental, is $15 per adult and $10 per child or a family package of $40 (five person family maximum). Two program times: 10-11:30am or 1:30-3:00pm. February 11
  Starting at 11:00am come on down to the harbour and play some pool - with hockey sticks & a puck, enjoy some hot chilli and a bun, participate in the annual bed races held on the ice, enjoy some skating and races on the ice and so much more. February 18
  The Delta Recreation Society is hosting a free event at the Delta Hockey Rink from 10 am to 9 pm. Includes family skating, hockey, games, races and more. Canteen will be open the whole day. For more info see the Delta Winterfest Poster.

February 20
  FAMILY DAY at North Crosby's Shillington Park. Snow games with toboggans, snow shoes, cross country skis and enthusiasm! Ice skating and winter curling with a twist! Canteen open, inside and outside games. This is a family event for family day! Registration starts at 10:00 and events end at 1:30pm. Your cost - out of pocket for the canteen!

bb SHROVE TUESDAY DINNER - Newboro
February 21
  SHROVE TUESDAY DINNER at St. Mary's in Newboro will be hosting a ham and scalloped potato dinner with pancakes for dessert on Tuesday, February 21 and offer two sittings 5:00pm and 6:15pm. bb RIDEAU CUP SLED DOG and SKIJORING RACES
February 25
  Rideau Cup Dog Sled Race held in Newboro WEATHER PERMITTING. Saturday, February 25, 2012 starting at 9:30am, 6 team Dog Sled Races, and Novice and Experienced 1 or 2 dog team Skijoring Races, take place in Newboro. The new starting point this year will on Bay Street at Swallows Lane. Parking is encouraged at the ball diamond or on one side of near-by streets. Watch for signs. A new all land race route has been planned for this year’s race. Breakfast is served for racers, participants, volunteers and the general public in the Community Hall beginning at 8:00am and Saturday evening join us for a fantastic supper, again open to everyone. Awards are presented in the Community Hall on Saturday at approximately 3:00pm. Volunteers are needed to help at checkpoints, as dog handlers and at the starting point. bb CHILDREN'S RECREATIONAL DANCE CLASSES
April to June
  CHILDREN'S RECREATIONAL DANCE CLASSES will return to the Portland Community Hall. Registration forms will be distributed through the local public & high schools. Call the Townships Community and Leisure Services Office in March for information.




Planning a Major Special Event?

Are you planning on holding a public event, festival and/or parade within the Township of Rideau Lakes? Would your event be involved in having a sale on a roadway or vacant lot? Could your event possibly block traffic? Would there be excessive litter? Are you offering an exhibition held for hire or gain?

Then you need to obtain a Festival License as per By-Law 2007-19. These licenses need to be applied for a minimum of 1 month before your event.

Completed Festival Licence application forms which should include letters of support from the OPP, Health Unit, Insurance, Fire and Emergency, maps, etc., must be received by the Clerk 2 weeks prior to the actual event.

TOWN CRIER

The Town Crier, David Boyd, is available to attend Township sponsored events and by private arrangement to participate in commercial and charitable functions.
