Most roads in the Township of Rideau Lakes have been built to handle year-round unrestricted traffic. However, some older roads and gravel roads were not built to withstand the negative impact caused by heavy truck loads during the spring thaw and the associated rainy season (and throughout the year under site specific circumstances).
Therefore, to reduce the impact to the Township roads, a seasonal reduced load period (referred to as "half load restrictions") is put into effect on various Township roads. See Section 122 of the Highway Traffic Act to learn about reduced load weight specifications and other details.
Note: Companies, organizations and individuals, who have Oversized Load Permits are not permitted to travel on Township roads with half load restrictions in effect.
Subject to weather conditions, effective March 1st, roads in the Township of Rideau Lakes will have Half Load Restrictions in effect. Half Load signs are posted at intersections with main arterials and will be removed when the reduced load period ends. Vehicles exceeding the load restrictions defined by the Highway Traffic Act must take alternative routes, or be subject to the penalties described in the Act.
