A number of important changes to the 2006 Ontario Building code take affect Jan 1, 2012. Those changes include the following;
Effective Jan 1, 2012 the requirements under 12.2.1.2 for energy efficiency of housing comes into force. The changes will require that all houses meet a performance level of 80 or more when evaluated to the NRc "Energuide for houses" OR conform to SB-12. This requirement will require information, such as type of heating, ventilation systems being used, type and rating of windows and doors to be used, be submitted to designers in advance of applying for a building permit.
Effective Jan 1, 2012 the code will be changing to require all home owner/builders under 1.3.3.4 to ensure they have obtained a occupancy permit prior to occupying the dwelling. This section contains the minimum requirements that will be required to be completed in order for the CBO to issue a occupancy permit.
Effective Jan 1, 2012, the code is changing with regards to the installation of air barrier systems. 9.25.3 is changing to be consistent to changes in technology and installation standards and to reflect the changes in energy efficiency.
