Township Facilities

The Township of Rideau Lakes offers several types of facilities to its residents and members of the visiting public. These include community halls, recreation facilities, a library system and an aerodrome.

Recreation Facilities

The Township offers many recreation facilities including numerous trails, softball diamonds, tennis courts, forested areas and waterfront beaches. Information about these as well our six township parks can be found on the Recreation Page.

Library System

The Rideau Lakes Public Library system consists of five branches located in Elgin, Delta, Newboro, Portland and South Elmsley. Information about the library system can be found on the Library Page.

Community Halls

All Municipally owned halls are smoke free.

Chaffeys Locks Community HallChaffey's Locks Community Hall (1661 Chaffey's Lock Road)
In the center of town sits an historic building that is home to the Heritage Society of Chaffey’s Lock, the Chaffey’s Lock Seniors, fast paced games of euchre, lots of social functions and events. Crosby Community HallCrosby Community Hall (3579 Highway 15)
Upstairs in this community hall you will find the North Leeds China Painters. In the hall itself, Brownies, Weight Watchers, CPHC Lunches and many other groups meet regularly for meetings, euchre, socials and in the spring, enjoy pancakes and maple syrup. Elgin Municipal ComplexElgin Municipal Complex
This busy community hall is home to the South Crosby Friendship Seniors Club, the CPHC SMART Classes and foot care clinics, Rideau Lakes Aikido classes, community dinners, children’s play groups and special events. Canada Post, the Elgin Library and the Elgin Fire Station are also located in this complex. Harry Seeley at 613-359 5664 chairs the Hall Board. Morton Community HallMorton Community Hall (13 Judd Street)
Another busy and active community, this hall is used for social events, meetings, and special occasions. To find out what is happening, contact their Hall Board Chair Tom Burns at 613-387-1016 or for information on renting the hall, call Carol Bush at 613-387-2523.

Newboro Community HallNewboro Community Hall (15 Drummond Street)
Right in the center of town you will find the Newboro Community Hall. St. Mary’s youth group and numerous other groups and organizations book meetings and events throughout the year. To find out what’s happening in this beautifully kept and busy hall, contact the chair Louise Pritchard at 613-272-0112. Information about booking the hall can be obtained by calling Wenda Lyons at 613-272-0352.

North Crosby Community CentreNorth Crosby Community Centre
Located on County Road 10 and the 8th Concession in Shillington Park, neighbour to the Townships Municipal Airport, North Crosby’s newest facility is available for community groups, private functions and activities. There is a fully equipped kitchen and large meeting room. The kitchen doubles as a canteen for outdoor events. Regular events include Taoist Tai Chi, CPHC, euchre groups, belly dancing, Seniors Friendship Club, art classes and more. The chair of the Hall Board is Pat Grundy and she can be reached at 613-273-3031. Please call Jim Mulville at 613-273-3008 to book the hall.

Portland Community HallPortland Community Hall (24 Water Street)
The largest community hall in the Township sits along the shores of the Big Rideau Lake in Portland. Regular activities include Taoist Tai Chi, Girl Guides of Canada, Portland Seniors, CPHC SMART classes, and many fundraising activities. The chair of the Portland Hall Board is Rick Long 613-272-2188. To rent the hall call Don Burchill at 613-272-2761.

South Elmsley Municipal ComplexSouth Elmsley Municipal Complex (441 Highway 15)
Located on highway 15 near Lombardy, you will recognize this hall as the home of the O.P.P. South Elmsley Club 55 meets here regularly. Many social functions are held here and the hall offers space for meetings, dog obedience classes and other functions. To find out more call Rob Stoddard at 613-283-0632.


Aerodrome

The Township owns an aerodrome with a 3,000 foot runway, located near Westport on Upper Rideau Lake. The aerodrome is managed by the Rideau Lakes Flying club. For more information see the Aerodrome Page.
