GARBAGE & RECYCLING COLLECTION ALL BAGS MUST BE OUT BY 7:00 am Garbage: Household bagged garbage only – Households have weekly garbage collection with a 2 bag limit. Household garbage must be in a clear bag (no colour) with a current Rideau Lakes’ bag tag attached, weighing no more than 40 lbs. During hot weather, freeze decaying material, as bags will not be collected if worms are visible. Large items are not collected at curbside and must be disposed of at the Portland Transfer Station. Garbage bags containing recycling material will not be collected. Please recycle. Black bags will not be picked up. All bags set out for collection must be tied and your bag tag must be clearly visible to the driver. To easily stick your bag tag, turn your tag over (white side up) and find the tabs for easy peeling. Affix tag to the top of each bag (not the side of the bag or wrapped around handles). Bags may be placed inside a garbage container. If placed in a can/bin ensure tag is visible at the top. Recycling: Households have weekly recycling collection and are permitted to place up to 5 bags of recycling out per week. Properly sorted, clean recycling must be placed in clear blue bags. Refer to the sorting guide at the back of this calendar. All recycling must be clean as dirty recycling will not be collected. Recycling material with food/drink remnants is considered garbage. You may flatten, bundle and tightly tie your cardboard and paper (no bag required). Do not place cardboard loosely in another cardboard box. All papers/fibers must be tied tight. No tag is required for recycling. Businesses must dispose of their waste and recycling at the Portland Transfer Station. See tipping fees below. Bag Tag Purchase Locations: You can purchase bag tags for $2.00 each (no tax) in sheets of 5 at the following locations:
Thank you to these businesses that sell our bag tags. STAT/CIVIC HOLIDAYS When there is a holiday, the collection schedule changes (except for Sundays). For example – when the holiday is on a Monday the collection schedule is one day later (Tuesday through Saturday). Only the week in which the holiday falls is affected.
